Hatiora salicornioides

Hatiora salicornioides, the bottle cactus, dancing-bones, drunkard's-dreamor spice cactus, is a species of flowering plant in the cactus family. A member of the tribe Rhipsalideae, it often grows as an epiphyte. It is native to eastern Brazil. It is sometimes grown both indoors and outdoors as an ornamental.

Caring for hatiora

1) It should be grown indoors in a pot or cactus garden. Hatiora grows well at regular room temperature. It likes indirect light and shouldn’t receive direct sunlight when grown indoors.

2) Under strong light, tiny purple spots appear along the stems with no regular pattern.

3) Water the plant regularly throughout the year, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between watering.

4) Use liquid fertilizer added to the water to feed the plant when watering.

5) The best soil for Hatiora salicornioides is a combination of sand, loam, and peat. The commercial cactus potting mix is also suitable.

6) The succulent stem and the flowers are potentially toxic and should not be placed in an area where children or pets can reach the plant.

7) Propagated by stem cuttings
